3/18/2024 0 Comments Is chucky based on my buddyIMO, Chucky works best when immobile and playing as a doll. The first one was the strongest as far as any horror, limited as it was in fx. I think the character became more camp because horror treads that fine line of serious to comic all the time. Chucky is mouthy and blunt, he wants a show. Of course, sneaky and smart is not how they write him. Where is he? What hit you? What're you going to-AHH. Or if you're not impaired enough, he hits you, and then is gone, somewhere, turning your house into a jungle of guerilla warfare. By the time you see him move, you should already be damaged or impaired in a way that makes fighting hard. Yes, he is laughable in a straight up fight. He could be prepping his kill and easily hide if you come home early. Or simply climb into bed with you at night. He could get into your medicine cabinet and drug your food. Or just plug in a hair dryer and toss it in the shower with you. Or attack you while you're driving to work-you gotta drive that car, but he's got a lot more room to move than some 6' slasher in the back seat. Or unplug one of your computer cables, so when you get under your desk to see wtf, he can stab you in the face. Climb into the cabinets above the kitchen and wait with a hammer. Something folks seem to miss is that Chucky's size can play in his favor.Ĭhucky can hide behind the toilet and cut your hamstring while you're on the crapper. Of course, if they don't go the way I suggested, and lean more into the Chucky characters and backstory, and limit the voodoo stuff somehow, that'd be fine too. It unfortunately loses the uncertainty- whether Chucky or his owner are the killer, but after 7 films, I think that was always going to be lost.īut they can explore themes of nostalgia and consumerism in the new series, at least. The creator of Chucky never liked the voodoo stuff or the backstory for Chucky, so I think having Chucky have so much power over his soul transfer and splitting essentially resets Chucky into being just what the creator wanted- an evil doll entity who can torture people under the guise of being an innocent toy. The voodoo stuff has kind of made Chucky permanently immortal and capable of multiplying his soul pretty freely, so if they wanted to, they could have Chucky have a more devil may care attitude as he enjoys torturing and murdering people, especially those he thinks deserve it more. I don't know much about the new tv series, but based on what I have seen, I think it would be fun to have Chucky be kind of a mischievous entity unleashed on the world. They lean a little into the nostalgia of the past two sets, but then also try and flesh out the Chucky character and psychological aspects of the victims. Then Curse and Cult- which are a modern blend of the two. Then Bride and Seed, which are Chucky in the Scream era- campy, self aware, more comedic. They're Chucky as a Gremlins Slasher villain in the same league as Jason, Michael, and Freddy. I'd say there's 3 "eras" of Chucky- the first 3 films, which are classic Chucky.
